Cacao Ceremonies, Rituals and Relationship

Cacao Ceremonies in Singapore, Online & Private Ceremony

A remembering. A return to the wisdom already within you.

Cacao ceremony is not simply about drinking cacao or chocolate for that matter.

It is an invitation into relationship.

A relationship with the spirit of cacao.
A relationship with your body.
A relationship with the Earth beneath you, the ancestors behind you, and the quiet truth within you that often gets buried beneath the noise of modern life.

At The Hummingbird Life, cacao is held as sacred medicine — not as a trend, not as a quick wellness fix, and not as something to consume and move on from.

Cacao is approached with reverence, gratitude and care, as a plant ally with ancient roots, cultural significance, and a living spirit that invites us to soften, listen, feel, remember, and reconnect.

These ceremonies are a gateway back to your own divine essence: the part of you that knows you are nature, that you belong to the wider web of life, and that healing ripples far beyond the individual.

When we gather with cacao, we gather in sacred relationship — with ourselves, with one another, with the unseen, and with the Earth.

What is a Cacao Ceremony?

A cacao ceremony is an intentional gathering where we drink ceremonial cacao in a sacred, supported space.

I am very particular about ensuring the Cacao I work with is sourced ethically and prepared with reverence to the cultures, farmers and wisdom keepers of Cacao. The bean variety,, growing conditions, energy of the land and farmers all plays a role in the energy of the cacao we commune with.

But the cacao is only one part of the ceremony.

The deeper medicine is in the slowing down.
The listening.
The blessing of the cup.
The sharing of stories.
The movement of emotion.
The music, meditation, prayer, silence, laughter, tears and insight that arise when we allow ourselves to be fully present.

Each ceremony is different because each group is different. The people who gather bring their own intentions, life seasons, questions, longings and wisdom. Somehow, the circle always weaves its own pattern.

Strangers often become mirrors. Stories connect. Insights land.

The medicine moves through the collective in ways we cannot always predict, but can deeply feel.

Cacao does not force you into an experience. She does not take you away from yourself.

Instead, she creates the conditions for you to come closer — to your body, your intuition, your truth, your tenderness, your grief, your joy, your creativity, your ancestors, your belonging.

She is a door-opener.

You are the one who walks through.

Every cacao ceremony is unique, and your experience will always be your own.

  • Some people feel calm, grounded and peaceful.

  • Some receive clarity around a life transition or decision.

  • Some feel emotion moving through the body.

  • Some feel deeply connected to ancestors, nature, spirit or community.

  • Some simply feel held, nourished and able to exhale for the first time in weeks.

A ceremony may include:

  • Drinking ceremonial cacao with intention

  • Grounding meditation

  • Breath and body awareness

  • Music and guided journeying

  • Gentle embodied movement or faciltated ecstatic dance

  • Reflection and journaling

  • Sharing in circle

  • Integration practices

There is no performance here. No need to be spiritual enough, emotional enough, expressive enough, or experienced enough.

You are welcome exactly as you are.

Whether you are brand new to ceremony or have walked this path for years, the space meets you where you are.

What might happen in ceremony?

A return to nature, ancestry and the sacred web of life

Cacao has been used in ritual, celebration, rites of passage and community life for thousands of years.

Her history is woven through ancient cultures, Indigenous lineages, sacred stories, cosmologies and lands that continue to hold her wisdom. These are the people, places and cultures that we need to honour, understand and respect before serving cacao as sacred medicine.

To sit with cacao in ceremony is to remember that we are not separate.

We are not separate from nature.
We are not separate from our ancestors.
We are not separate from the Earth, the elements, the plants, the waters, the unseen, or one another.

So much modern suffering comes from forgetting this.

We move through life as if we are isolated minds inside separate bodies, disconnected from the soil, the seasons, the stories and the sacred.

Cacao gently calls us back.

Back to the body.
Back to the breath.
Back to the wisdom of the heart.
Back to gratitude.
Back to reciprocity.
Back to the remembrance that we are part of a living, breathing, interconnected world.

This is why cacao ceremony can feel so deeply nourishing, because the ceremony helps you remember the power, love, truth and medicine already living within you.

As cacao ceremonies become more popular, I feel a deep responsibility to honour this medicine with care.

For me, ceremonial cacao is not defined only by how it is processed or prepared. It is also about relationship, respect, sourcing, intention, lineage, reciprocity and the way the medicine is held.

I honour and acknowledge the cacao farmers, the lands that sustain the cacao trees, the Indigenous cultures and ancestral lineages who have protected cacao’s wisdom across generations, and the human, plant, animal and spiritual guardians connected to this medicine.

True ceremonial cacao asks more of us than simply buying a block labelled “ceremonial grade.”

It asks us to consider:

  • Where has this cacao come from?

  • Who grew it, harvested it and prepared it?

  • Are the farmers and communities being respected?

  • Are we approaching this medicine with humility rather than entitlement?

  • Are we honouring the cultures and lands connected to cacao?

  • Are we in right relationship with the plant, the people and the Earth?

Before every ceremony, I spend time preparing, blessing and connecting with the cacao and the intention of the group. This preparation matters. It is part of what transforms a drink into a sacred offering.

Cacao with integrity

Cacao is not something I use.

She is someone I am in relationship with.

Why gather with Laura?

I am the founder of The Hummingbird Life, a cacao ceremonialist, Spiritual mentor meditation teacher, movement facilitator, sacred space-holder and initiated Andean medicine woman.

My work is rooted in the three sacred pillars of connection to Self, connection to Nature, and connection to aligned Community.

I have been in deep relationship with Cacao for many years, and I believe we need properly accredited training and experience in order to acknowledge the cultures and communities that have kept the wisdom of Cacao as medicine alive.

We also need to develop our own personal relationship with Spirit, with Nature and the Medicine of Cacao, in order to share a fully embodied experience rooted in integrity and authenticity.

My intention is not to perform ceremony, but to hold a grounded, respectful and energetically clear container where the medicine can meet each person in the way they need.

One participant shared that the cacao ceremonies I hold feel “like coming home to my safe place,” while another described the ceremony as “an invitation to deep dive into my heart, heal, connect with my ancestors and awaken my senses.” Others speak of feeling held, peaceful, guided, connected, and able to journey inward without awkwardness or pressure.

What people say about my Cacao Ceremonies

Private & couples

cacao ceremonies

Private cacao ceremonies are available for individuals, couples, birthdays, transitions, healing journeys, intimate celebrations, blessings, anniversaries, rites of passage, or meaningful moments of personal reflection.

A private ceremony allows the space to be shaped around your intention.

This may include meditation, energy healing, guided reflection, ritual, movement, music, sharing, blessing work, or a more personalised journey with cacao.

Couples cacao ceremonies offer a beautiful way to slow down together, reconnect beyond daily roles, communicate from a more honest place, and honour your relationship with presence, tenderness and intention.

Private ceremonies can be held in person in Singapore or online, depending on the nature of the request.

FAQ on Ceremonial Cacao and Cacao Ceremony

  • A cacao ceremony is a heart-opening ritual where cacao is honoured as a sacred plant ally, prepared and shared with intention. While cacao is often associated with Mesoamerica, the earliest evidence of domesticated cacao used in ritual actually traces back to South America — reminding us that this relationship is ancient, wide-rooted, and deeply revered.

In ceremony, we slow down and listen. We drink high-quality, ceremonial-grade cacao, consciously sourced and prepared in a way that respects the plant, the land, and the ancestral lineages that have worked with her for thousands of years. The quality of the cacao matters — not just for its physical effects, but for the integrity, care, and respect it carries.

Cacao works gently, opening the heart and inviting connection — to yourself, to others, and to life itself. Each ceremony is unique, but may include meditation, music, intention-setting, movement, or sharing. No experience is needed, only a willingness to arrive as you are.

At its essence, a cacao ceremony is a remembering — of ancient wisdom, living tradition, and your own innate heart knowing

  • The Outdoor ceremonies involve more dance, using wireless headsets, you can connect deeply to movement and nature around you. The Shamanic Journey at the end is also facilitated through the headsets.

The Indoor ceremonies usually have fewer people and have less dance (still some movement, with the Shamanic Journey being guided y my own drumming.

  • Ceremonial Grade Cacao is not just any cacao; it's a sacred and medicinal gift from Mother Earth. The cultivation, bean variety, ecosystem, intention and respect throughout its production affects the medicinal qualities of Cacao. Download the guide here

  • Cocoa is actually just Cocoa Mass with Cacao Butter removed. Ceremonial cacao is the pure bean ground to a paste, minimally processed, and retains its full spectrum of minerals, antioxidants, and mood-enhancing compounds

  • Cacao is not a psychedelic. It contains theobromine (a vasodilator + energizer) and phenylethylamine (the “love molecule”). These shift your mood and expand awareness—without hallucinations.

  • Unlike coffee, cacao has a gentle, sustained energy from theobromine—not a jittery caffeine spike. It nurtures the nervous system instead of depleting it.

  • Cacao has been used for thousands of years by the Peruvians, Mayan and Aztec peoples in ritual, prayer, and community.

Although Cacao was not used in ceremony for healing, it was revered as medicine in ritual - a gift from Mother Earth

Modern cacao ceremonies are a revival of these ancestral traditions .

  • Science shows cacao increases serotonin, dopamine, and oxytocin—neurochemicals linked to joy, connection, and love.

The heart-opening people feel is backed by chemistry and spirit.

BUT, the way Cacao is prepared, and revered by the Facilitator and participants does has an impact on the effects of Cacao

  • You can learn about the emotional healing power of cacao in a few beautiful ways. One is through my online Space Holder Training, where we explore how cacao can be used as a medicine to support nervous system regulation, emotional openness, and heart-centred connection within ritual containers. This training gives you both theory and embodied experience of how cacao supports deep healing and presence.

I also hold regular cacao ceremonies, Self led Cacao Trainings and Bean to Bar Workshops— both in-person and online — where you can directly experience cacao’s effects on emotional release, clarity, connection, and inner spaciousness. These are gentle, guided journeys that invite your heart to open and your body to remember.

Whether through training or ceremony, you’ll discover cacao as a supportive ally for emotional healing, community, and deep self-awareness
