The Wheel of the Year is a calendar that reflects the seasonal cycles and rhythms of the natural world, rooted in ancient Celtic pagan traditions. It is used in modern Paganism, Wicca, and Druidry to celebrate the turning of the seasons and the connection between humanity and nature.
The Wheel consists of eight festivals, evenly spaced throughout the year, which are divided into four solar festivals (solstices and equinoxes) and four fire festivals (midpoints between them)
Lughnasa (lew-na- sa) is the threshold of Summer's end and the start of Autumn. We have arrived at the harvest.
The energies of Lughnasa are ripeness, plenitude, appreciation, joy, pleasure, celebration and exuberance.
It's a time to celebrate the first fruits of the harvest, acknowledge the generosity of nature, and reflect on the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. The festival is named after the Celtic god Lugh, a deity associated with craftsmanship, light, and skill.
